Voodoo Doughnuts Opens Shop In Central Florida

DOUGHNUT WORRY BE HAPPY...

Calling all sweets lovers! You may have heard of specialty cupcakes becoming popular in the last several years, but now it is time for something vastly more important, in my opinion, to stake its claim... Doughnuts! Voodoo Doughnuts was founded in 2003 in Oregon and has less than 10 locations in the states. Their newest property is conveniently located right across the street from my job, at Universal Studios CityWalk. CityWalk is a recreation area owned and operated by Universal at the entrance of their two parks, for guests and residents alike to enjoy. Very similar to Disney Springs, they have restaurants and shops to dine at and explore. Free to the public (though you have to pay for parking) CityWalk is a great way to spend the evening with friends or grab dinner with a date.

Since the Voodoo Doughnuts soft opening a few weeks ago, I have heard a lot of buzz generated by the doughnut shop. I decided to stop by to see if the hype was real and I was not disappointed! The shop is located right beside NBC Sports Grill & Brew on the far most right side, closest to the Universal Studios entrance. When I arrived I saw a queue on the outside of the store but upon asking the team member the wait time, he assured me it would take less than 10 minutes. He was correct and once I got inside, the line flowed very smoothly. I had been picturing a buffet styled set up similar to Subway where you pick your toppings but was quickly corrected once I saw the displayed donuts. Though you do not get to create your own doughnut (bummer), the choices they had were extremely overwhelming! I agreed to myself that I would only buy one doughnut since I had no need for a dozen, but how does one choose just a single doughnut?! Though my choice was hard, I landed on the ODB.

The menu described my doughnut as a "raised yeast doughnut with chocolate frosting, Oreo cookies, and peanut butter." Is your mouth watering yet?!?!?!

Once I bought my doughnut I decided to wander around and check out the details and the design of the building.

The decorations inside, complete with a rotating glass doughnut display case.

They also have a window at the prep counter so that guest can view the doughnuts being made.

Their menu covers pretty much everyone's wants. You can buy single doughnuts, different types of dozens and even a wooden coffin of doughnuts for 139.00 dollars! Pictured are the cake doughnut options but they also have raised doughnuts and vegan doughnuts to choose from as well. Some of the options that caught my eye were as followed:
  • Portland Cream - Raised yeast shell filled with Bavarian cream and topped with chocolate and two eyeballs, representing the vision of the great city of Portland

Since I stopped alone and was already dressed for work, I opted to take a picture of my doughnut with the giant doughnut chair outside, instead of being in it. If you live in Orlando or happen to be at CityWalk on your next vacation I highly recommend a pit stop at the scrumptious place!
