How to Enjoy Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park

"Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming..."

Walt Disney World has two water parks on property in addition to their four regular theme parks. They are less frequented by travelers coming to Disney but if you have the time on your next vacation, I think you should check them out. The two water parks of course both have themes; Blizzard Beach was once a ski resort, turned water park complete with a ski lift, while Typhoon Lagoon is the aftermath of a shipwreck. I have had the pleasure of checking out both parks and while they both have their plus sides, I think Typhoon Lagoon takes the cake. Now this could be because I prefer their wave pool but read on and see why I love heading here!

The typical ticket for a one day pass to Typhoon Lagoon is 65 dollars. There are roughly 11 attractions included in the price of your ticket such as a lazy river, the previously mentioned wave pool, and multiple water slides. Some other additional options or alternatives to consider are the surfing lessons and the newly announced H2O Glow Nights. The surfing lessons are made through reservation and extremely limited but do not require a park ticket. It can simply be a group activity to enjoy. The H2O Glow Nights are currently on select nights starting June 21st and running through August 11th. The price is 55 dollars per adult and you get to spend the night celebrating with the characters of Toy Story as they party the night away. This is unique to Typhoon Lagoon since the park is typically only open during the day. This event however, takes place from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at night (you can enter at 7 p.m. with your ticket), where you can meet the characters, dance on the beach with the DJ or even enjoy an adult only area with adult beverages.

Here are some personal recommendations to check out on your next visit:

1. The Surf Pool

This wave pool is legit. It is currently North America's largest wave pool and has waves that reach as high as 6 feet. I love to swim all the way out to the front and ride the waves in or lounge near the entrance and catch the little ones at my feet.

I took some photos of my friends on my most recent visit and lets just say not everyone can be Moana. So it's only natural we have some who are less than excited to take on the challenge. We'll call these the blooper and the final product. 😉

2. Castaway Creek

This lazy river encompasses the entire water park and is great to enjoy all the way around or until your next stop. There are several stops along the way that can take you to your next destination if you're like me and truly embrace the name, "lazy". If you chose to ride it all the way through you will encounter things along the way such as ship wreck remains, bridges and my favorite, the waterfall caves. No one makes it out dry!

3. Humunga Kowabunga

Head up, up, up to the 5 story drop in the pitch black and then right back down at a 60 degree angle. You scream your head off the whole way and end up with a wedgie bigger than you can possibly imagine but the adrenaline is worth it!

4. Gangplank Falls

This ride fits 4 but don't let the family nature of it fool you. The 300 foot water slide will make you feel like you are right in the heart of the storm that landed everyone there in the first place. Just ask my friend Amanda (in white).

Clearly she is loving every minute of this

Brittany and I survived just fine however

5. Keehaul and Mayday Falls

Keehaul and Mayday Falls are sister tube slides entangled on Mount Mayday. Keelhaul is a more relaxing ride down the mountain whereas Mayday is bound to make you feel like you are riding out some gnarly rapids.

6. The Storm Slides

Race your friends down 3 stories to the finish line to see who wins! There are three slides to chose from, the Jib Jammer, Stern Burner or Rudder Buster. I chose Rudder Buster and won so just a heads up, in case you want to win, you know which one is fastest!

Whether you prefer tube or tube free, to lounge pool side or float down the river, to chase adrenaline or enjoy the ride, Typhoon Lagoon has a ride for everyone! So next time you are headed for Disney consider this hidden hideaway. Until then, cowabunga dudes!
