5 Things To Do Around Fort Myers, Florida

1. Visit 6 Mile Cypress Slough Preserve

Upon a quick Google search, I came across this Preserve and decided to head out early one morning to check it out. You can walk along the multiple mile boardwalk and visit the Interpretive Center by the parking lot. The parking is 1 dollar an hour and I spent around 2 hours there. The wildlife is abundant (including snakes) so make sure you keep your eyes and ears open for alligators, squirrels, otters, a variety of birds and much more!

2. Bike Sanibel Island

My parents and I drove out to Sanibel Island last year and rented bikes to explore. 16 miles later my body hurt but the views are so worth it! There are shops and boutique cafes to visit on the island and the views of the beach are fantastic as well. If you are a fan of real estate, like myself, make sure you go all the way to the end of the island near Captiva. The houses are ginormous!

3. Visit Wiggins Pass State Park

While there are many beaches to visit and Fort Myers Beach is often the most popular, this beach located 30 minutes south, in Naples, is worth checking out! We encountered raccoons and turtles and that was just ten minutes into our visit. You can walk the shores and look for sea shells, swim in the beautiful blue water or even try wind surfing. Parking cost 6 dollars per car to get in and parking is subject to availability.

4. Check out one of the many mini-golf courses

Growing up, every time I visited Fort Myers I would BEG my grandparents to take us mini-golfing. Now that I am 25... I still do that but I am not quite as successful haha! However, there are plenty of courses around with different themes. Check out a few with good reviews such as Smugglers Cove or Castle Golf!

5. Head to the Fort Myers Fishing Pier and surrounding area

Probably the most famous part of the area is Fort Myers Beach and Pier. While they are worth checking out, the area does tend to get extremely busy, especially during Spring Break time. This is a great place to visit during the day, evening or even at night. Usually I visit the area in January/February and my most recent trip included a night stroll along the pier to watch the night fishers. After, we headed to one of the many bars along the beach to grab some drinks. There is paid parking areas all around that vary in price.
